Art Time Anyone?

July 28, 2012

I have always enjoyed doing crafts.  During high school I was loved scrap-booking in my free time and tackled any other little art project I could get my hands on.  However, the past 11 years of college, law school, marriage and now a baby have left little time for anything craft-related!

Being home with little A has given me a lot more time to explore the internet and awesome websites such as pinterest I previously did not know existed. Inspired by so many of the canvas art projects on pinterest, such as this one, I decided it was finally time for me to stop pinning and start doing! So I broke out some old canvases I have had around the house and decided to try my hand at some canvas art for our guest bedroom.

To begin I assembled my little stash of sample paints we have from house projects to see what color options there were.

I ended up selecting a blueish-grey color that I thought would work well in our guest room. The color is called Autumn Fog by Valspar.

I began by taping up my canvases in a random pattern using some frog tape we had around. Then I went to work painting them.

Easy peasy, right? See the little triangles in the center of the picture on the right? I decided to go one shade darker in that area to mix it up a bit like the inspiration piece from Pinterest.

I was so excited to pull the tape off and see the end result! Although the pictures don’t do it justice, the little triangles that are darker than the rest of the canvas add just enough of a contrast.

After pulling off the painters tape I did have to touch up some of the lines with some white acrylic paint but that was super easy.

The verdict? I love them and am so happy with the end result!

I recently hung up my new little (free) art pieces in our blue guest room and we are loving the way they look on the previously blank wall.

I was so pleased with the end result I had to make a few more for our new dining room (post on that soon).  This time I went for a grey and yellow combination and I love the colors together!! I did not have these colors so I snagged two bottles of acrylic paint at Michaels for $1.00 total. Can’t beat that! Again I had two canvases lying around the house that I used and some frog tape.

Once again I am am so happy with the result!

I can’t wait to show you how great they look in our new dining room!

So there you have it. After an 11 year hiatus I officially have the crafting bug back so stay tuned for more projects!

Wow, you are crafty!! This looks awesome and such a great idea! i might have to steal it! We need some artwork upstairs but would need large prints which are expensive. I could find some canvas and try this out! Great job!

Thank you! I bought two larger canvases a few weeks ago at Michaels for $5 (!!) during a really awesome sale and am currently working on some more art for over our fireplace and in our bedroom so I hope to have those to share soon. So much fun!

Wow! I’m impressed and can’t wait to try it! We don’t want to invest in expensive art since we are renting for the time being ( 😉 ) so this is perfect!
